treat people the way they desire to be treated. That is totally subjective, lacks any standard and nearly demands inequity.
I treat all with respect until they demonstrate that is not warranted. I allow for compassion but will not feed those wallowing in unhelpful self-pity. I will be patient with the arrogant and unruly until such time they demonstrate they are indifferent to the hurt they cause others at which point I will either intercede or remove myself from interaction with them.
My standard is not subjective based on what they desire. It is based on how they behave in light of what I know about being respectful of others.
