increase fan interest in college football’s postseason. ie, better ticket sales and tv ratings.
And that is to make more of the games matter. And to do that, we need fewer games not more. An expanded playoff only gives us more non-competitive games. Granted, an expanded playoffs is where we will eventually end up and I have strongly argued that 8 teams is better than 4.
But the better way to truly give more teams a chance and to encourage more fans to watch, is to go back to the bowl system of the late 80s and early 90s and then choose two teams to play in a national championship game after the bowl season.
Many of you either did not live it or do not remember, but 30 years ago this is all any college football fan ever wanted. The solution was always so simple, but they simply refused to add a game at that time and so they came up with the bowl alliance, and the BCS, and now we have extra games anyway.
Right now, two bowl games are semi finals and that is all that gets even remotely decent viewership. In a plus one system half a dozen bowl games could factor into who plays into the national championship, maybe even more. More fans will watch more games because they might matter
