Even Clinton figured this out that too high of taxes actually reduces tax income to the government. The Trump tax cuts did not cost trillions...it actually increased revenue. And there is no question that a dramatic increase in taxes will likely not have much of an effect on tax revenue.

Meanwhile spending is up trillions. That cannot be met by going out and taking more money without destroying the economy and crashing tax revenue.
