you have a group of people that present a problem....and then a solution for it. That is what religion does...that is what the State does. Both of them reject competing views as part of that philosophy. They both also give some feeling that the followers have a say in the leadership and ideas, but they really do not.

And lastly....they love collecting money where the leadership benefits and hands out just enough to keep the followers happy and following.
