It's nice to have a chunk in a Roth for the extra big expenses like buying a car. That way you don't risk pushing yourself into a higher tax bracket. If you retire early be prepared to spend a substantial amount on health care. I'm 63 and my wife is 60. Our premiums are about $1,500 a month. That doesn't count a very high deductible.
