For many gays the priesthood was indeed a perfect hiding place. For others, who felt guilt for their desires, the priesthood was an escape they thought could "fix" their desires. Too often it simply led to stories such as this. And in an attempt to protect the "institution", the Catholic church grossly mishandled cases of deviant priests.
