is that people are not incentivized to tell the truth to pollsters to begin with, but then when support for a candidate has been ridiculed, met with name-calling, property destruction (sign stealing, etc), and actual violence (assaulting kids wearing MAGA hats), it makes those who support that candidate EXTREMELY unlikely to tell pollsters the truth.
I think until a few years ago, some polls tried to be correct, some tried to influence public behavior through depressing or encouraging certain voting patterns based on who was winning. Now, I think it's 99% the latter.
