You live in a black and white world. I see things as a series of choices we have to make as a society that are ruled by practicalities rather than an underlying philosophy of government or economic system. For many different reasons, private health insurance is not a very workable system - which is why medicaid was created for people over 65. Insurers would either go broke if they had to cover older people or very few would ever be able to afford health insurance. Other nations have tackled the issue with better efficiency and more success than the US. It's a practical choice for a particular issue, it's not necessarily a sign of a predilection towards socialism.
