But hasn't the fear for one's self or property become a subjective standard? I know it's supposed to be a reasonable fear, but if we've learned anything from police shootings, simply saying he had a gun creates that reasonable fear.
So what if he makes a movement that makes me think that he's directing the gun towards me? I'm obviously taking it outside of the context of this specific situation, but the problem I'm foreseeing is that everyone can claim they "feared for their safety" and it doesn't seem to take much to support that claim.
