Armed, lots of people carry so sight of a firearm alone would not be justification (and if a firearm scares you, maybe you shouldn't be carrying).
Acting unhinged? The only actions I've seen from him on video so far (there could be others) are remaining calm with people yelling in his and other's faces, and running away when pursued and having objects thrown at him. In a 'what-if' scenario, if the firearm is not pointed at anyone you're going to have a hard time claiming self-defense.
If that firearm is pointed at you? Self-defense.
