you can debate whether it was a mistake at all, but that's kind of missing the point. There wasn't any obvious ill intent, the student towards whom it was directed didn't take offense, the broader context changes the tone of it and it could've easily been handled with a simple discussion with the involved parties (if you believe it needed to be addressed at all).

That's how adults would've handled it. Instead, nearly everyone involved is a child, regardless of age.
