My dad farmed his entire life and busted his ass. He never took a government subsidy and even in a year when we lost all of our corn crops due to hail, he plowed it under and went out and planted soy beans and got a good enough late season crop to keep us going. When it came time for me to go to college, he refused to let me take out a student loan because he didn't want me saddled with that debt and because "It ain't none of their business how much money I've got." He paid for my college education. I couldn't do the same. I saw how he would come home so dirty he couldn't possibly get clean and too tired to care how dirty he was. Farmers in general work a whole lot harder than today's snowflakes can possibly understand.
