When I say the death rate doesn't matter, I mean tracking where it is today versus yesterday or a month ago for this virus. If we're testing more asymptomatic people, the death rate will of course drop. That doesn't tell us the virus is less deadly, it tells us we're getting a better grasp on finding those whom are infected or treating those who are.
The more data that comes out and the further we get away from this, the more accurate the death rate will be. For now, it makes no difference if it's .1% or 5%. We know how it spreads and who's at risk.
