If 200,000 die, who really cares what the rate is?

It's one thing if there was a sure way to know who and how many people have been infected. We have no idea how to know that and likely never will. So the death rate is a pure guess.

Either the virus spreads quicker and more easily and the death rates are lower, or it's not as aggressive but the death rates are higher. Either scenario ends with the same number of people dead.
