Kids generally don't catch or die from this disease. Got any teeachers in your family?? Any of your relatives work as a school janitor, or lunchroom cook, or principal? And all those people have relatives at home, some of whom may be older, or compromised in a high-risk category.

It's way too easy to analyze these problems by just looking at the first order of problems. But there are second, third, fourth, etc., degree problems with any decision like this.

I favor opening as many schools as possible, but it's not quite as cut and dried as many of you put it. The health of the kids is not the only factor that has to be considered.

It is an extraordinarily complex and difficult decision, and there is no "right" answer, because the right answer will only be known in hindsight.

IMHO, when you evaluate all that, you open the schools because of the social and cultural catastrophe that ensues if you don't, but it is a painful decision to make.
