In the 1992 expansion, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State and Arkansas were aked to join the SEC. Texas A&M said yes, Arkansas said yes, Florida State and Texas said no. Texas then spent a considerable amount of money and arm twisting to keep Texas A&M from going to the SEC. Arkansas came in, Independent South Carolina was asked to join and that was the SEC expansion in 1992. Two things from that. Rule number one is the SEC would only go with one state per team pact. And rule 2 if you were asked once to joiny you will never be asked again. As a result Florida State and Texas will never be asked to join the SEC. Funny thing as well While Texas A&M didn’t join, they never stop ed talking to the SEC because as you correctly pointed out their plan was join the SEC all along. They divorced Texas and will never let Texas dictate again.
