1. Travel expenses are substantial, taking a large squad to a large number of out of town games and staying over a weekend.
2. We likely will never be able to seriously compete in the SEC due to the strength of the league, historical weakness of our program, and handicap from geography/climate.
It would be very hard to cut ties with such a popular, widely played sport, but the numbers and the competition would seem to favor doing so. I hope it doesn't come to this.
