I have a lot of misgivings about dropping the SAT standard. Personally, I think it's unwise. It's ostensibly to provide a greater opportunity to minority students but it's also relished by athletic departments that don't want to have to the burden of recruiting athletes that may not qualify.
If you are really that concerned about minority recruiting at colleges, there are plenty of minorities that could pass the SAT standard but they don't happen to be major college athletes. Provide them the scollies and we'd be further down the road to creating a more equitable society. Sometimes I wonder if it would just be best for schools to get out of the entertainment business and just drop their athletic programs altogether. The argument that athletics give minorities an opporunity they would not have otherwise has never really been true since playing basketball or football is full time job when in College and few athletes regarldess of race can compete all that well in the more applied degree programs.
