However, the big reason this is getting traction in baseball is ADs are looking to cut costs and baseball is often on the chopping block. Due to Title IX and a somewhat reduced cost for fielding a softball team (baseball is the most expensive non-revenue sport) softball coaches aren't as fearful of their programs getting cut. This proposal would greatly reduce cost for schools for baseball, especially in the North, where schools like Mizzou have to spend 2-4 weeks on the road to start every season. I can't imagine how much it costs to have a team of 35 plus coaches/staff be in a hotel for 2 full weeks in Florida, Texas or California each February. Let alone 4 weeks like a Michigan or Minnesota have to do.
