tendency to get cute when it was not necessary, and it ended up hurting us more times than can be counted.
Mixing it up is generally a good thing, but sometimes you just don't need to. Take the Niners v Packers in the NFCCG. Kindergarten offense was killing it, so why bother doing anything more advanced. Similarly in the OU game from '07. No, we weren't killing it like the Niners were, but our regular stuff was moving the ball and we were right in the game. Then DC goes to the Maclin pass that gets intercepted and completely changed the game.
Oddly enough, the change at OC to Yost provided the exact opposite. Yost almost never mixed it up. The hell with the run it until they stop it, they went with run it until it works.
