1. Their senior years were 1998, the year Matter started covering Mizzou. It is highly unlikely he would pick someone on his top 30 list who he only saw play 1 year. While technically they are in the parameter of his time frame, it’s just barely.
2. If the clue is “The backfield that returned Mizzou to football glory”, then that narrows it down considerably. Just look at the Mizzou football season records from 1998 on. While Corby Jones was a great QB and restored the program to respectability in the late 1990s, there was no season that could remotely be called “a return to football glory” until the 2007 team that went 12-2, had a huge Cotton bowl win, and was ranked #1 in the nation late in the season. Unless one has an extremely broad definition of what constitutes “glory”. That would lead one to suspect the next pick is Tony Temple.
