When it's likely the opposite. Most kids believe in themselves and think they are better than anyone else on the court especially when compared against non-elite players.
I suspect all kids recruited by Cuonzo are told we'll expect you to earn playing time especially by playing hard defense.
If any player chooses not to do that, while yes it's a waste of time, you can't just give them what they want so they don't leave.
Identifying the real players who are willing to be Xavier is the goal. Kids will however assume they will be great immediately.
And the coaching staffs only job is to develop a program which wins consistently. However that occurs.
