into his home and tried to rob him and he shot him/them in self-defense.

Not charging him for shooting them seems reasonable to me.

I'm no lawyer, but as I understand it they could not charge him for possession of drugs or whatever unless they saw them when they came in during any investigation.

They still can't go search his home without a warrant.
