even that he didn't get the proper permits to build the shed. He isn't even jailed because they are in violation of zoning laws.

He is jailed because he refused to comply with a court order to take them down. He was jailed evenings only for a year or so in order to motivate him to bring them into compliance, but he still won't do so.

What they are doing to him may indeed be wrong or stupid or both, but he isn't being jailed merely because he had a fence that wasn't in compliance.
