the banking industry made those loans because the US government guaranteed them. They get paid one way or another. That money would have to be appropriated from citizens and given to the banks. That's what "loan forgiveness" means when Liz talks about it. That money taken from the citizens? Could have been used to buy homes, start businesses, etc.
