using their high homes for short term rentals....just google airbnb party houses.
Would love to have several party houses in our neighborhood.
And an elementary school closed not far from us and sold to a church. Not uncommon and churches often use schools to meet when they are getting started and building their congregations.
But now this church wants to offer itself as an overnight homeless shelter, which violates its occupancy permit and violates the zoning for the area. They are partnering with another church which was hosting a homeless shelter on its premise in another city under a special use permit, which was denied for renewal. The city refused to renew the permit because of frequent police calls to and around the facility and from neighborhood complaints.
So now they are trying this in another city to the point they are suing to get their demands met. Keep in mind the facility is not zoned for a homeless shelter, the staff is not trained to deal with the various issues (mental health, mostly) of the "guests", nor is there any plan in place for where the homeless go during the day.
Pickle has no problems with HOA's enforcing rules but Lord forbid a city should enforce zoning laws for the benefit of the majority.
Same thing with houses run as Airbnb's in residential areas. A neighborhood isn't zoned for a commercial motel operation.
