He has very much said he wants to inflict harm on other countries...especially China. Also at times Canada and Mexico.

Also, as evidence..look at his deals with Mexico and Canada....they are really no movement towards free trade.

Like I said, look at his actions...not his rhetoric.

Lastly, look at the history of trade.....tariffs have been reducing over the last 50 years...WITHOUT any trade wars. Trump had in front of him TPP, which vastly reduced tariffs among 10+ countries...(Canada is now more competitive than us in getting into Japan thanks to TPP).….

Trump is a protectionists...not a free trader.
