Again, we are talking about whether the hurricanes have become more intensive over time, not whether they have become more frequent.
from Fig 3: "According to the total annual ACE Index, cyclone intensity has risen noticeably over the past 20 years, and six of the 10 most active years since 1950 have occurred since the mid-1990s (see Figure 2). Relatively high levels of cyclone activity were also seen during the 1950s and 1960s."
Please note that these data are up to date through 2013, but not past that. To recap, there have been 35 Category 5 hurricanes ever observed in the Atlantic. Thirteen of these have been observed since the year 2000 (that's 37% of them in the last 19 years).
Draw your own conclusions... but only one is correct: hurricanes have become more intense over the last several decades (on average).
