he likely would have adopted a strategy similar to the one he settled on along the western front in Europe. The war against Japan would have lasted one to two more years and there would have been a mainland invasion there. Ike was a much better diplomat and politician than military strategist. Look at the useless loss of life in Holland, in the Hurtgen Forest, in Lorraine and the Saar. His failure to urge Monty to close the Falaise pocket let the German Army escape France largely intact. Ike's failure to force Monty to capture the Scheldt estuary prevented the allies use of the vital Antwerp port facilities. Ike diplomatic approach to war lead to the useless deaths of American soldiers.
