that short term pain can result in long term pain. Trump's tariffs are a possible example, at least regarding china and the countries that for years have either cheated on agreements, stole property or just had much higher tariffs than we've had. Whether they end up working, can't tell now.
And, probably better to have no tariffs anywhere. But it doesn't work out that way.
