A full scholarship is 15 unit cost. Just about 90% of the “ full ride” girls get 12 units, or an 80%. It’s enough to pay for classes mostly, with some living expenses. Then there is the cost of living money that some schools give to the players, or the coach can choose to use that to entice role players with books, or even just class preference. Even an out of state player can make it on the 80%, which gives the coach more room to stretch the money.
