So why is it not legal to kill them until they become self-sufficient?

The abortion laws championed by the left would allow a woman whose water has broke to walk into a doctors office and have the child killed no questions asked.

If she has it delivered, takes it home and stops feeding it she would be charged with murder.

What is the difference between those two scenarios?
