It is illegal for public money to go towards abortions. States that pass limits on abortion after the point of viability saw support from democrats. This is after the 21 week mark.

No one champions abortion. There is a difference between having safe access to them and criminalizing the act. You can make abortion illegal, charge women and doctors with crimes when they seek/perform them...but there will still be women seeking them out. And it will be the wealthy who easily can overcome the undo burden of traveling to different states.

Which, naturally, will lead to more unwanted births among the poorest in the country.
