The idea of UM to the Big 10 has been around for a long time

a lot of it has (or had) to do with academics- what you're pointing out about our 'fan base' is true - there's a portion that thinks academics shouldn't be overshadowed by athletics the way they are. These people ran our school in the 80's and ran our football program into the dirt with their approach.
The Big 10's Academic Alliance - formerly the CIC - is a jewel any school would like to be part of - including many at Mizzou. It would be a huge boost in research opportunities and our reputation as a school. Personally, I like the SEC-I like the one for all, all for one attitude and the congeniality of Southern culture. At the same time, I'd like us to be members of the BTAA too.
