based on consumer choice, and these private entities usually specialize to cater to myriad consumer choices. The very obstacles that govt faces, as you've already pinpointed in your lackluster defense (I suppose) of public schools.

The US health care industry is about a stone's throw from full govt control and about a thousand miles from a free market system. So, I wouldn't castigate the free market based on any present day woes with medical care in the US.

And even with that omnipresent govt intervention, free market alternatives are still the best way to obtain medical care in regards to time, place, manner, and cost.
