Odom never was the answer, then it could be deadly to a school like Mizzou.
And yet... if we pull the trigger too early (like we maybe almost did with Pinkel), we would have missed out on the best era of football that we've had in 50 years.
If I had to judge right now... I'd say sorry Barry. I just don't see enough improvement in the areas of the program, to warrant more time.
I went through 1984 - 2002... two measly winning seasons (barely), and total irrelevance, even locally. A laughingstock of epic proportions.
And frankly... we were okay, but not very good from 1970 - 1983 as well. Never close to a conference title, and relevant only a few years.
IMO, a school like Mizzou doesn't have much more than about 3 seasons to identity whether a coach is right or not. We don't have the history and alumni dedication and fan base to rely on - like Nebraska, Notre Dame or Texas does when they are down.
We haven't been relevant since 2014. Today, kids that are turning 15, 16 and starting to get recruited by major colleges were only 11, 12 the last time Mizzou was relevant. And the next crop of kids were so young, they wouldn't even have much memory of Mizzou national relevance.
2007, 2008 and 2010 were huge for the program. But a kid entering high school today was only 3 when that started. They didn't live through that emotion.
If we don't start developing memories for these local kids soon, we will once again fall trap to a totally disinterested and almost ashamed local fan-base that pays no mind to the school like it did for 20 years in the 80s and 90s.
