I would not go so far as to call them an enemy of the state but they have strayed far afield of their original intent.

There is a reason the American people distrust the media almost as much as the Congress. Some of that is due to disinformation in the the alt media and on social media (going both ways) but much of that problem is due to the mainstream media disconnecting from middle america.

This article does a good job of looking at this issue in a non-partisan way. They were not trying to assign blame but simply address the issue.
