silence from this program is deafening.
The team should be competitive this fall, but will likely play in front of sparse crowds with the exception of the Georgia game. Our weak non-con scheduling isn't helping create interest for recruits or sell tickets to fans. For example here's the 2020 home schedule:
Central Arkansas
Eastern Michigan
Louisiana
Kentucky
Georgia
Vanderbilt
Arkansas
Besides Georgia and Arkansas, it's a complete dud.
I remember when we played big-time teams like USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State for our non-con schedule back in the 70's. It was an exciting time for Mizzou football. These watered-down schedules to ensure bowl eligibility are a joke. Who really cares about some minor bowl when there are 40 bowl games (counting the NC) with 78 teams, including some with losing records going bowling.
I would rather see us take a shot at one of the big boys every year for our non-con schedule, maybe 3 duds and a stud?
It would generate fan interest and probably more importantly create excitement for potential recruits. If I'm a recruit looking to play P5 level college football, I want the opportunity to play in big games not a steady diet of MAC and FBS teams to go along with Vanderbilt and Kentucky every year.
