Some guy murders your wife, daughter, whatever and you're comfortable with a jail sentence and maybe some restitution that keeps the guy in your life?

I'm most likely not fine with anything. I don't think there is a proper way to value my loved one's life in years imprisonment or in money. But that's me personally.

If I ever happen to be in that unfortunate situation, I doubt I would have much interest in the state's prosecution of the offender and I know I wouldn't seek a money judgment against him.

What question am I not answering?
