I've seen all sorts of things. You learn to respect violence and avoid it if possible. I could coldcock someone, and as they fall backward, they can hit their head, and I have a manslaughter charge.

I've seen a man get hit so hard, he flipped back horizontally so fast, that his legs hit the hitter in the balls. The guy got up and about beat the hitter to death. Happened in the Central West end of the Lou. You want to avoid it if possible. That officer couldn't avoid it. You don't know what she has in her bag etc. You have to subdue her. Now once she's hooked up, if he beat her, that's not right.
