at a school that was about 60% Spanish speakers. We had almost as many ESL para educators on staff as we did regular teachers. Paras are cheaper than teachers but they fill a support role only, they do not teach classes or prepare lessons. They are basically in class tutors who help special needs students. Almost every class I taught in that school had a para in the room.

When people wonder why inner city schools cost so much more than higher achieving schools in the burbs this type of thing is a big part of it along with the increased security.
