The NBA takes these kids early for only one of two reasons.

1. They really want to take kids early and spend the time and money to develop them instead of getting a lot of that done for free in college.

2. The take these kids early because they are afraid that if they don't, another team will.

Think back to when Kevin Garnett went straight pro. Kevin McHale publicly admitted that he was scared shltless to draft a HS player, but that he was equally afraid that if he didn't that somebody else would and he'd be known as the guy who didn't draft Kevin Garnett just like the guys who passed on Jordan.

Who knows, if Garnett had busted it is possible that nobody ever tries HS-NBA ever, or for a long ass time.
