Two reasons:
1. Prior to firing him, the UW AD had the chance publicly to state that Romar would be retained and didn't. At that point Porter Sr had to look out for his own job security just like 100 out of 100 people would.
2. The family learned that it wanted to return to Como. Anderson made a too-late similar offer the year prior but no one in their right mind would choose KA over Romar or really any other D1 program. Porter Sr. is just a really good guy, not stupid.
