doctors, lawyers, etc.
I try to keep informed on what's going on in the medical field, but in doing so I'll read articles on a topic from a variety of sources. If I had a big medical decision to make I would seek out a doctor I could trust and would place my trust in him to run whatever medical tests he felt would be necessary or beneficial to any diagnosis, and then I would either get a second opinion if it was some major life and death type issue, or make decisions based upon what he told me & upon whatever other info I could gather and trust that he would recommend the best doctor/hospital for me if that was necessary.
The process would be similar for big legal or financial decisions.
With respect to religious issues, I've done a lot of reading and research and am quite sure of my decision to place my trust in the Church founded by Our Lord, Jesus Christ. That doesn't mean that I am going to mindlessly follow any nun, priest, bishop, cardinal or even the Pope if I think that they're deviating from the teachings of the Church. In fact there's a bit of turmoil in the Church at the moment & I most certainly test what is said against the teachings of the Church, logic and reason.
