effective means of self defense for some people and certain times. Hence, why self defense is an individual issue. I'm not the one failing to grasp the issue here.

It would be interesting to talk with individuals who have used a firearm to successfully defend their self and/or family and find out how much they care that some dude a thousand miles away used his gun to kill the third member of his love triangle.

Don't look at these issues collectively. All instances where self defense may be required happen at the individual level.
