I think that's a large reason why I'm against

a total ban on automatic weapons. The ban wouldn't end school shootings, nor end all school shootings with automatic weapons. It would be just the first domino to fall. After the ban, you know the narrative would shift to

"We have banned automatic weapons and are still experiencing WAY too many shootings. We propose a ban on all firearms." And the media will shift to specific incidents and gang shootings with pistols and instead of fixing the gang issue they'll push the gun issue.

I don't own guns and doubt I ever will, but I can already see where this is headed.
