We got 14th in the SEC 3 years in a row, and were pretty much the worst major conference program in the nation in each of those seasons. Cuonzo inherited a roster that is almost difficult to believe could be compiled at this level.
It could have been a great one year turnaround, because Cuonzo had arguably one of the best offseasons at any program in the last decade. But it didn't work out to its fullest potential, and now we are pretty much hamstrung. It was a huge tactical blunder to not switch to Harris as the primary pg during the non-con and that blew up in our face, and now we have a team who primarily gets all its points from jump shooters without anyone on the roster who is a playmaker who can get them open looks. So its going to be clunky, and we aren't going to maximize our assets. That is what playing without a pg looks like regardless of who is coach.
The optimistic thing for me is that if you look at our roster, every single player is somewhere between a below avg defender to a terrible defender. Yet somehow we are a reasonably effective defensive unit. That is pretty promising if Cuonzo can start bringing in some of the types of players he wants to build this program with.
