The North could have lost more than one Gettysburg and still handily won the war. To think otherwise is either ignorance of Southern romanticism of the War.
The South needed a much larger population to field enough troops to compete with the North. The South needed an economy based on actual industry that produced more than what slavery could produce. The South lacked the rail and port infrastructure to move troops and resources and trade with foreign powers.
