they voted to stay in the union and adopt neutrality. In the end, 110000 Missourians fought for the north and only 30000 for the south. My ancestors weren't around then but trying to champion Missouri as a southern state during the civil war is not historically inaccurate and certainly nothing to be proud of. There were ties to the south to be sure but the state was much more pro Union than pro south. And the Tigers were a group that protected Columbia not from Jayhawks but from confederate sympathizing marauders in the area like Bloody Bill Anderson.
