The fact is that the OP is correct, Underwood has Illinois prepared better than Martin did. Their defense took the Tigers out of their offense completely in the first half. We did make some of it up in the second half but a lot of that was due to Illinois trying to run clock most of the half.
It seems to me that you are the one that lacks clear understanding of what coaching can mean in a game like that. Our turnovers were not unforced and teams tend to shoot badly when they are closely guarded, it's not a coincidence. They shot better than we did because we didn't defend like they did and they were better coached. That Illinois has very little high level talent but Underwood got a lot out of a little, that's what coaching is.
